Technical Notes
Notes on switchable film and multi-zone control, written from the side that designs the controller. We cover the things that are easy to get wrong early and hard to change later — and that catalogues tend not to mention.

The “◯ W/m²” on a datasheet is not a constant of the film. The same film draws different power depending on the frequency the controller drives it at — and that decides your supply capacity and drivable area.

Nothing conducts sideways through switchable film, yet driving one zone puts a voltage across its neighbours. The coupling runs through the shared common electrode — and that one fact decides how far it reaches.
